Two different 2026 stories (do not conflate them)

Indian finance searches WhatsApp API pricing India per message 2026 usually mix two Meta changes:

Per-message pricing (1 July 2025). Conversation-based pricing is deprecated. Meta charges when a template is delivered, by category and the recipient’s country calling code. See Meta’s WhatsApp pricing documentation.
India local billing + rate-card update (1 January 2026). Eligible businesses whose Sold-To country is India can be invoiced in INR. Meta also recorded a higher India marketing rate on that date. That is billing currency + a rate change — not “per-message started in January.”

What per-message billing means in practice

On the current Cloud API rules (confirm live — Meta publishes quarterly updates):

You are charged for delivered template messages (type: template).
Marketing templates are charged.
Utility templates are charged outside an open customer-service window; Meta has treated utility inside that window as free since 1 July 2025 (announced to change — see below).
Non-template agent/bot replies inside the window have been free as service since 1 November 2024 (announced to change).
Free-entry-point windows (e.g. some ad/click paths) can make messages free for a period — confirm current hours on Meta’s page.
Volume tiers can lower utility and authentication rates at very high monthly volume. Most D2C brands stay on the list rate.

Upcoming (verify): Meta has announced 1 October 2026 charges for service messages and for utility messages inside the 24-hour window, with a small free service tier per number. If you are reading this around that date, open Meta’s card — do not treat this paragraph as the invoice.

India INR billing vs a BSP platform fee

A cheap “₹0.20 per message all-in” unofficial pitch is usually hiding Meta or skipping Cloud API. Official software cannot delete Meta’s card.

Public January 2026 snapshots after the India marketing increase clustered near the high-80-paise mark for marketing (some BSP pages quoted ₹0.8631). Those pages drift. Add 18% GST on each biller’s invoice. Recipients outside India use that country’s row.
