Meta Business Verification Rejected? 9 Common Reasons and How to Fix Them (India, 2026)
Meta business verification rejected? See Meta's official reasons, the common India mistakes (name mismatch, no HTTPS site, wrong document) and how to appeal.

Quick answers
- Why was my Meta business verification rejected?
- Meta's official reasons are false or misleading information, claiming a business you don't represent, circumventing the review, or a website that doesn't load, isn't HTTPS or has broken links. Practically, a legal name mismatch with your documents is the most common cause.
- Can I appeal a rejected business verification?
- Meta says you may be eligible to appeal. Check the status in Security Centre in Meta Business Suite, or in the platform where you started verification. Fix the underlying problem before appealing, so the reviewer sees a corrected submission.
- How many times can I resubmit business verification?
- Meta doesn't publish a simple retry count for standard verification. Repeated identical submissions rarely help. Partner-led verification routes have their own limits, which third-party docs describe as up to three document submissions.
Short answer
Meta lists four official reasons for rejection: false or misleading information, claiming a business you aren't authorised to represent, trying to circumvent the review, and a website that fails to load, isn't HTTPS, or has broken links. In India, most rejections come from the legal name not matching the document exactly, the wrong document type, a missing or unsecured website, or an email on a different domain. Check Security Centre for the status and appeal option, fix the mismatch, then appeal or resubmit.
What Meta officially says
Meta's Help Centre article Why was my business verification submission rejected? lists these reasons:
- Submitting, or being suspected of submitting, false or misleading information.
- Attempting to claim or verify a portfolio you don't own or aren't authorised to represent.
- Trying to circumvent Meta's verification review.
- A website that fails to load, isn't HTTPS, or contains a link that leads to an error.
Reasons 1–3 sound serious, but small mismatches can look "misleading" to a reviewer. For example, "Sharma Dental Care" on the form, "Dr. A Sharma" on the document and no link between them on the website.
The 9 practical reasons (and fixes)
| # | What went wrong | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Legal name mismatch (trade name typed instead of legal name, or "Pvt Ltd" vs "Private Limited") | Copy the legal name exactly from your GST certificate or CoI |
| 2 | Address mismatch (old office, missing floor or PIN) | Use the address on the document, or upload a document with the current address |
| 3 | Wrong document type (Aadhaar, personal PAN, ITR acknowledgement) | Use a business document: CoI, GST certificate, Shop & Establishment, business bank statement |
| 4 | Utility bill used as proof of name | Meta accepts utility bills only for address/phone; add a name document |
| 5 | Website doesn't load, isn't HTTPS, or has broken links | Fix SSL, remove dead links, add legal name, address and phone to the footer |
| 6 | Trade name and legal name not linked | Add "Glow Studio is a unit of Priya R" (or similar) to the site footer and About page |
| 7 | Email on another domain (Gmail for a .in website) | Use phone, WhatsApp or domain verification, or an email on your domain |
| 8 | Blurry, cropped or expired document | Rescan the full page in colour; check validity dates |
| 9 | Unsupported language | Meta accepts English, Hindi and Bengali among others; add a certified English translation otherwise |
Meta's accepted document list is in Upload official documents to verify your business.
A typical example (hypothetical)
A Jaipur coaching institute entered "Bright Minds Academy" as the legal name, uploaded the owner's personal PAN, and gave a website still on http://. That's three problems at once: a trade name instead of the legal name, a personal document instead of a business one, and no HTTPS. The fix: enter the legal name exactly as on the GST certificate, upload that certificate, add SSL, and put "Bright Minds Academy, a unit of [legal name]" in the site footer.
Step-by-step recovery plan
- Read the rejection message in Meta Business Suite → Security Centre, and the email from Meta. Third-party guides like 360dialog's verification guide describe a Contact option under the rejection that opens a support conversation with a case number.
- Audit your three sources side by side: the form details, the document, and the website footer. Every name, address and phone should match.
- Fix the website first. It's the cheapest fix and a listed rejection reason. HTTPS, no 404 links, a clear contact page.
- Pick a stronger document. For a proprietorship, a GST certificate showing both legal and trade names often works better than a utility bill.
- Appeal or resubmit. Meta says you may be eligible to appeal from Security Centre. If you change business details, Meta's verification guide notes you need to complete verification again.
- Wait. Meta says decisions can take up to 14 working days. Don't stack multiple submissions in the meantime.
Special cases
"Ineligible for verification" or no Start button
Meta says you may see Ineligible for verification in Security Centre. That isn't a rejection. Some portfolios aren't prompted there and are asked through another product instead. 360dialog notes that for WhatsApp, the button may appear only after a WhatsApp Business Account is created and the portfolio is in the right access tier.
Coexistence (WhatsApp Business app + API) numbers
360dialog notes that classic business verification isn't available for coexistence accounts; partner-led verification or Meta Verified may be alternatives. Check with your provider.
Someone else's portfolio
If an agency created your portfolio, verification under your business name can look like "claiming a business you don't own". Make sure an authorised person from your business owns the portfolio with full control.
Don't confuse these three things
| Business verification | Official Business Account (blue tick) | Meta Verified | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | Confirms your portfolio is a real legal business | Blue checkmark on your WhatsApp profile | Paid subscription with a badge and features |
| Cost | Free | Free to apply | Paid |
| Needed for | Higher limits, OBA eligibility, some features | Recognition for notable brands | Optional |
| Where | Security Centre | WhatsApp Manager | Meta Verified signup |
Meta's Official Business Account docs list a verified business portfolio as one of the requirements for the blue checkmark.
What you can still do while rejected
- Send and receive messages at the starting messaging limit.
- Build and get templates approved (within unverified limits).
- Set up your shared inbox, chatbot and booking flows so you're ready when verification passes.
Where WatsBerry fits
When you onboard to WatsBerry through Meta's Embedded Signup, I personally check your name, documents and website before you submit verification. It's the most common place Indian SMBs lose a week. WatsBerry is on the official Cloud API; Meta bills WhatsApp usage to your own payment method, and WatsBerry charges a separate platform plan (₹1,599 / ₹2,999 / ₹5,999 per month + GST). No one can guarantee Meta's decision, but a clean submission gives you the best chance.

Frequently asked questions
Why was my Meta business verification rejected?
Meta's official reasons are false or misleading information, claiming a business you don't represent, circumventing the review, or a website that doesn't load, isn't HTTPS or has broken links. Practically, a legal name mismatch with your documents is the most common cause.
Can I appeal a rejected business verification?
Meta says you may be eligible to appeal. Check the status in Security Centre in Meta Business Suite, or in the platform where you started verification. Fix the underlying problem before appealing, so the reviewer sees a corrected submission.
How many times can I resubmit business verification?
Meta doesn't publish a simple retry count for standard verification. Repeated identical submissions rarely help. Partner-led verification routes have their own limits, which third-party docs describe as up to three document submissions.
Can I use WhatsApp Business API while verification is rejected?
Often yes, at the starting messaging limits, but you'll miss features that need a verified business, such as the faster route to a 2,000 limit and Official Business Account eligibility. Some providers' onboarding also depends on verification, so check with yours.
Does a Gmail address cause rejection?
If you choose email confirmation, third-party guides note the code should go to an email on your website's domain. A Gmail address can't prove you control the business domain, so use phone, WhatsApp or domain verification, or a domain email.
